Who We Work With
By eliminating the need of an English proficient teacher, LeapForWord’s "English Literacy Program" has become amenable for adoption by any organization which has interests in education but has a delivery network of not-so-proficient teachers.
Teacher is the primary consumer of our work. Trained and certified teachers in turn run English classes for regional language school-going kids in their respective communities.
There are only 6 types of teachers in the school ecosystem, namely:
- Anganwadi Sevikas
- Zilla Parishad and Ashram School Teachers
- Private School Teachers (Regional language and English)
- Supplementary Class Teachers on the payrolls of Community Based Organisations (NGOs)
- Tuition Teachers
- Parents / Volunteers
While the above first 4 types are institutional employees the last 2 are individuals working on their own either for a fee (#5) or for free (#6).
Customer (Employing Organisations):
At LeapForWord, we currently work with first 5 types of teachers. We train and certify these teachers by partnering with their employer organisations, namely
01. Government - Corporation, Taluka, District
02. Affordable Private Schools
The Teacher Entrepreneur (Tuition Teacher)
LeapForWord’s flagship delivery channel is "The Teacher Entrepreneur". We identify, train and certify educated unemployed youth and help them start language learning classes for kids in their respective communities. These Teacher Entrepreneurs charge a fee equivalent to Re.1 – Rs.2 per learning day from their students. For ~2 hours of teaching every day, these individuals reach out to almost 50 kids and in the process earn almost Rs. 2,500 - Rs. 3,000 per month.
Most of our teachers are primarily farmers who take ~2-3 hours every day from their farms to turn into teachers. Additional discretionary income that has come as part of their tuition fees has brought some amount of prosperity which is visible through indicators like toilets at home, spouse enrolling for further education, kids going into professional education, kids going into private schools etc.
Any organisation which works towards the cause of livelihood enhancement of youth through skill building can add "English Teacher" to their existing portfolio of employment opportunities.
